Yard & Home Maintenance
Help individuals 55+ with modest incomes remain independent as a Senior’s CHOICES volunteer, providing yard and home maintenance.
Role Description
As a Senior’s CHOICES volunteer, you have the opportunity to assist individuals (aged 55+) with modest incomes stay independent and in their homes by providing essential yard & home maintenance tasks:
- Assist with lawn mowing, weeding, gardening, and other general upkeep OR
- Hanging pictures, rearranging furniture, changing light bulbs, checking smoke alarms, moving appliances & cleaning underneath them, washing windows, and other simple tasks.
All maintenance equipment is provided, transportation reimbursement available.

Volunteer hours for these services are flexible. Please be aware that certain days/weeks may be busier than others due to changing weather conditions.
Volunteer Requirements
To volunteer with Senior’s CHOICES, you will need the following:
- A Volunteer Application Form
- Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check
- Clean Drivers Abstract for the last 3 years (if applicable)
- A full Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License (if applicable)
In order to use the yard maintenance equipment provided by the CDFCSS, volunteers will need to watch the appropriate tutorial videos (approximately 1 hour in total).

Step 1: Submit Application Online
Create an account for Better Impact and fill out our online application form with your personal information and areas of interest.
Step 2: Meet With Volunteer Coordinator
We'll discuss your options and address any questions. After that, we'll contact your references. If everything is in order, you'll need to apply for a police information and vulnerable sector check.
Step 3: Complete
Training
Once accepted, you will need to read our volunteer handbook, and complete training to prepare you for your volunteer role.
