    Description
If you like toe-tapping jazz tunes from the early ’30s and on, delivered in a brassy blast, you’ll get what you came for with this energetic group. This 18-piece band shows up with all of the old favourites in tune, and peppers some contemporary favourites in every gig.

Started in 2015, Battle River Big Band is primarily comprised of band and music teachers, and seasoned musicians, living in the communities in and around Camrose and Wetaskiwin. As the Battle River runs through or near these centres, the name suits this band to a tee.

The band has performed in Camrose at the Bailey Theatre, and downtown during Jaywalkers’ Jamboree. Their next performance will take place on May 13 in Wetaskiwin, at the First United Church.

Who we are – Choirs for kids!  Three groups: two non-auditioned and one auditioned.  Our choirs are for kids who love to sing! Come check out Jr. Choir for grades 1-3 (K with interview), Sr. Choir for grades 4-9, and Vivo Cantando Ensemble (auditioned) for grades 5-12 with more experience. All groups are inclusive, encouraging and engaging. We sing all styles of music in fun and challenging arrangements, and perform in three concerts per year, with various optional extras.  Costs are reasonable, time commitment is fair and clearly outlined, instruction is high calibre and experienced.  Each season runs mid-September to the end of April/beginning of May.   Rehearsals are Tuesday afternoon/evenings, and are centrally located downtown in the United Church hall.

The Camrose and Area Children’s Choirs exist to provide varied, high-quality learning and performing experiences to children and teens in the greater Camrose region. Through rehearsals, performances, workshops, excursions and tours, our members explore and expand their love of music and the voice.  Through participation in local and regional festivals, functions, and concerts, singers learn to appreciate all that music can bring to a well rounded live and community.

Our Society began with the goal of opening a shelter for the lost and homeless pets in Camrose and the surrounding area.  We began by raising funds for the awareness of and the need for an animal shelter in Camrose.  The City of Camrose currently contributes funding to the shelter in the amount of our lease. All cats are vaccinated, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped prior to adopting them out.

Our Society hopes to add community outreach programs, such as low cost spay/neuter/microchip initiatives.  These will contribute to reducing reproduction, increasing the number of strays being returned to their owners, and in turn controlling the stray population.

The Shelter has Charity Status and can issue tax deductible receipts for donations over $20.00.

    Description

We offer both pre-natal and parenting support for families with children ages 0-6. Our approach is family centered and strength based, we work in partnership with families and tailor services to best meet your needs. The intent of Home Visitation is to increase protective factors and build resiliency thereby increasing a family’s capacity to provide responsive parenting in a safe and nurturing environment. We utilize a curriculum called Growing Great Kids to help support the “big picture” part of parenting and relationships, coupled with other tools and resources that encourage critical and creative thinking to build on the knowledge and skill sets that you already have.

As a further extension our PCAP program offers specialized, holistic support during and after pregnancy for those experiencing difficulties with substance use and other health or social needs. We work together for 3 years building connections that help to create the life you want. We work closely with community partners to ensure a holistic approach to meeting needs that you identify for your family and to build awareness of community supports for long term parenting success. All programs are voluntary and free of charge. Referrals are welcome from everyone including self.

    Description

The S.O.S. program informs, empowers and connects seniors to new and existing programs, services and resources at the federal, provincial and local level. Our goal is to bridge the communication/ service gap that currently exists between seniors and government programming and services. The S.O.S. program offers presentations on topics of interest to seniors and hosts seminars with information provided by community partners in both the public and private sector.    We collaborate with the Canada Revenue Agency to provide a free tax filing service that continues throughout the year.  S.O.S. aids in the completion of paperwork for seniors applying for programming, aiding applicants in negotiating criteria for different and sometimes competing services, referring clients to other local organizations to meet their specific needs, linking them with clubs or service organizations.  We provide support for seniors seeking access to housing and transportation.  We aid clients in understanding their options; troubleshooting or brainstorming about their choices and supporting them in their decision making.
